Why Work With Me

You might be asking yourself, why counseling?  How can this help me? How can you help me? Those are very valid questions and if you’ve never been to counseling before, it might seem like a scary process, but it doesn’t have to be.  Counseling is collaborative.  In our sessions, we will spend time exploring what brought you to counseling and what goals you have for our time together.  I’m here to help and will meet you where you’re at.  We will work together to help you heal and create the life you want.  What can counseling do?  Counseling can provide a safe place. to express yourself, to explore feelings and experiences, gain perspective, develop tools to cope with difficult situations-just to name a few.   It may be helpful to know that things that are discussed in a counseling session are confidential, with few exceptions regarding safety concerns.   Counseling can provide you with a place to talk to a person who is neutral in your life who can support, guide, and help you navigate the hard stuff.

Who Am I

Hi!  I’m Kelly Coté, founder and therapist at Evolve Counseling, LLC.  You already know that I’m a therapist, but what you might not know is that I am a survivor of the unimaginable.  Six years into my career as a therapist, I found myself living my worst nightmare.  My world came crashing down around me when my first child was stillborn due to a genetic condition.  After I walked my own healing journey, I became passionate about helping others who have found they are living the unimaginable, living their worst nightmare.

I get it.  I know what it’s like to pick up the pieces and to deeply question whether there are even any pieces to pick up.  As you’re reading this, you may be thinking it’s impossible to heal and who could blame you-this sucks.

I am passionate about and dedicated to helping my clients figure out what healing means for them.  It’s different for everyone, which makes sense because no two experiences are the same.  What I do know is you don’t need to figure it out alone.

How We Work Together

Life is hard and just plain sucks at times.  Some experiences are so painful that it shatters our world and life as we knew it ceases to exist.   We find it difficult to connect to people and the world around us.  We think nothing will ever be the same, that might be true.  Some things happen that forever change us.  But we can learn to live a new life and continue moving forward.  We can heal. Our life can evolve. It is possible to heal, find balance, and create the life that you want and deserve.

I help my clients navigate the unknown and find joy again after their life is turned upside down by child loss.

This can be more complicated then it sounds, if you’re reading this you’ve probably already realized this.  Life after devasting loss and traumatic experiences is filled with an array of conflicting emotions.

My clients develop ways to hold all of these seemingly contradictory emotions so they can pick up the pieces.

I help grieving parents go from feeling like their living in hell to feeling like they can face the world again.

Counseling is a partnership and a relationship.  Our work together will begin by developing a relationship by getting to know and trust one another.  I will start by getting a sense of what your goals are for therapy.  I encouraged the people I work with to be open with me about what’s helpful or not helpful. It won’t hurt my feelings!  I am here to help you and support you.  That is my main goal.  That being said, counseling can be tough.  We may talk about hard things.  Sometimes my job is also to challenge you, which can be uncomfortable.  Just know that I am here to help you heal and met your goals.

My approach to life and counseling is down-to-earth, compassionate, and real.  I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to talk and can help you navigate difficult emotions or overwhelming experiences or just a place to vent.   As for the boring stuff- I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor.  Additionally, I use a variety of modalities including CBT, DBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, panic control treatment, and EMDR.
