Why Counseling

You might be asking yourself, why counseling?  How can this help me?  Those are very valid questions and if you've never been to counseling before, it might seem like a scary process.   But it doesn't have to be.  Counseling is a collaborative process.  In our sessions we will spend time exploring what brought you to counseling and what goals you have for our time together.  I'm here to help and will meet you where you are at.  We will work together to help you heal and create the life you want.  What can counseling do?  Counseling can provide a safe place to express yourself, to explore feelings and experiences, gain perspective, develop tools to cope with difficult situations-just to name a few.   It may be helpful to know that things that are discussed in a counseling sessions are confidential, with few expections regarding safety concerns.   Counseling can provide you with a place to talk to a person who is neutral in your life who can support, guide, and help you navigate challenges in life.

Who Am I

  2. Managing Director
  3. Managing Director
My name is Kelly Coté, founder of Evolve Counseling, LLC.  I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addictions Counselor with 10 years of experience working with people in this journey called life.  I've always been passionate and drawn to helping others.  I knew since highschool that I wanted to be a therapist.  I had been in the field for 6 years before my life turned upside down.  After my first child died due to a fatal genetic condition, I focused my practice on helping other bereaved parents and those who have experienced the unimaginable.  I've been there. I understand on a real level what is like to face each day without a part of me.  I have learned that healing is possible.  Everyone's journey is different, however, I find that it can be helpful to work with someone who understands from experience.  I am passionate about providing a place where people can safely express themselves and work towards healing.  Additionally, I write for Still Standing Magazine, an online magazine which writes about surviving the aftermath of child loss and infertility.   You don't have to do this alone.

My Philosophy

Life is hard and just plain sucks at times.  Some experiences are so painful that it shatters our world and life as we knew it ceases to exist.  We find it difficult to connect to people and the world around us.  We think nothing will ever be the same, that might be true.  Some things happen that forever change us.  But we can learn to live a new life and continue moving forward.  We can heal.  Our life can evolve. It is possible to heal, find balance, and create the life you want and deserve.

My Approach

My approach to life and counseling is down-to-earth, compassionate, and real.  I provide a safe, non-judgemental space to talk and can help you navigate difficult emotions or overwhelming experiences or just a place to vent.  Additionally, I use a variety of modalites including CBT, DBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, panic control treatment, and EMDR.
